This week in Parliament, Courts and Tribunals (18 Oct 2010)

The following legislative activities, which affect Australian servicemembers, veterans or concern military justice issues, relate to freedom of information or national security, are occurring this week in the Parliament of Australia:

**The House of Representatives to begin debate on the nine year war in Afghanistan this week. Debate is expected to begin on Tuesday, 19 October 2010 at 1530 hours AEDT and go through the week. On Tuesday the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader are expected to debate followed by other Members of Parliament during the week.

Repatriation Commission v. Malady [2010] FCA 798 (30 July 2010). Commission appeals a lower tribunal decision. The issue is whether a reasonable hypothesis connecting disability with eligible war service entitles veteran to a disability pension under Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986.

Wednesday, 20 October 2010

Rana v Repatriation Commission [2010] FCA 280 (26 March 2010). Case involves the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986 and whether the veteran is entitled to a pension under IV of the Act.

Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal

The Tribunal currently is currently in recess and next sits on 28 and 29 October 2010.
